Appointments

On Friday 19th July there was a global IT outage affecting practices in the NHS with some practices unable to book or manage appointments.

This was beyond the control of GP surgeries. Neston Surgery is now back up and running.  However, we are currently dealing with a backlog and anticipate delays for a few days.

We appreciate your patience and understanding during this time.

Answer a few questions and we will acknowledge your message by the end of the following working day. Please do not use this form for urgent or emergency requests. Your appointment

However you choose to contact us we may offer you a consultation:

  • By phone
  • Face to face at the surgery
  • On a video call
  • By text or email

Appointments by phone, video call or by text or email can be more flexible and often means the doctor or nurse can help you sooner.

When you get in touch, we’ll ask what you need help with.

We will use the information you give us to choose the most suitable doctor, nurse or health professional to help you.

Telephone Consultations

We now have some telephone consultations available. These are for review appointments (NOT medication reviews) or for an appointment where it will not be necessary for the doctor to examine you. There are only a few of these appointments each day - they do not  replace face to face appointments with the doctor but may assist people that work or find it difficult to get to the surgery.

Practice Nurses

The nurses’ appointment system is different as you may book up to one month in advance. All patients between the age of sixteen and seventy five who have not attended the surgery within three years, are welcome to attend a general consultation and will be offered appropriate health checks.

Patients aged seventy-five and over who have not attended within twelve months are welcome to attend for a general consultation and will be offered appropriate health checks. This general consultation may take place in the patient’s home where, because of the patient’s medical condition, it is deemed appropriate to do so.

Enhanced Access

If you would like a routine appointment outside of normal surgery hours we have appointments available Wednesday evenings, on Saturday Mornings provided by the Enhanced Access Serivce.

Appointments may be booked one week advance and are available between 18:30 and 20:00 Monday, Wednesday and Saturday Mornings.

Please contact the Surgery to book Monday to Friday.

Cancelling or changing an appointment

If you cannot attend an appointment for any reason please inform us as soon as possible in order for us to give the slot to someone else.

If you need help when we are closed

If you need medical help now, use NHS 111 online or call 111.

NHS 111 online is for people aged 5 and over. Call 111 if you need help for a child under 5.

Call 999 in a medical or mental health emergency. This is when someone is seriously ill or injured and their life is at risk.

If you need help with your appointment

Please tell us:

  • If there’s a specific doctor, nurse or other health professional you would prefer to respond
  • If you would prefer to consult with the doctor or nurse by phone, face-to-face, by video call or by text or email
  • If you need an interpreter
  • If you have any other access or communication needs

Home Visits

If you are housebound and need an appointment, we will do a home visit. We will phone you first to understand what you need.

To request a home visit, it’s helpful if you phone the practice before 10am. Our home visits are supported by a Paramedic Lead Visiting Service and it may not be a doctor who visits you.

Text Reminder Service

We have a texting service which allows you to receive confirmation and reminders about your appointments.

To have this service you will need to register by completing a consent form.

Please remember to update your contact details with us when you change address, telephone numbers and email address.

Training Practice

This is an approved practice for general practitioner training. This means we have other doctors with us for either six months or a year. These doctors are fully qualified, have at least one year’s hospital experience, and join us to gain extra experience in general practice.

We are also lucky to have two medical students from Liverpool University who join us at least once a week for most of the year. They are in the penultimate year of their training. From time to time, the doctors or the students will need, as part of their training within general practice, to video their consultations with you. This forms an important part of medical training but will not be carried out without your written consent. It will not affect your consultation or treatment in any way. No intimate examinations will be recorded and the camera can be switched off whenever you wish.

We hope that you will consent to this being carried out, as the tape will be kept as confidential as your medical records and will only be used for educational purposes and then erased. It is used to assess the doctor’s skill in the consultation, to teach the doctor how to improve and for research - all of which helps you to get better care.
